MISSION
areas recognizing an international best practice to
preserve a country's natural and cultural heritage.
MEC established Lake Hovsgol Conservancy (LHC) in 2012 to support the protection and management of Lake Hovsgol National Park to help the park sustain its wilderness resources, protect the indigenous nomadic culture and ensure locally provided tourism activities.
In recent years, the Conservancy has been focusing on the following areas: improving park ranger management, conservation, and education skills, expanding park facilities, establishing interdisciplinary and place-based education programs, and initiating tourism-related workforce development for local residents.

National Parks
Lake Hovsgol National Park was established in 1992 and expanded in 2011 Nomadic tribes were first attracted to the beauty of Blue Pearl some 4000 years ago. Mongolians also call Lake Hovsgol, the Mother Sea, for it contains 70% of Mongolia’s (and 1% of the Earth’s) freshwater. Surrounded by forests, the water entering the lake can take 500 years to exit via the one outlet: the Eg River.
Sister Park Arrangement
The Mongol Ecology Center played a key role in facilitating and developing “Sister Park” relationship. The purpose of the relationship is to promote international cooperation and support for the mutual benefit of bilateral Parks and to enrich the experience and training of the personnel of bilateral Parks through projects of international cooperation.
Threats & Challenges
Around the world, critically important natural and cultural resources are under constant threat. Wildlife and rare plants are routinely poached. Illegal mining, development, and illicit drug trade devastates landscapes. Cultural antiquities are stolen or damaged.
Entrance Signs and Interpretive Panels
To commemorate the establishment of Sister Park Arrangement, Yosemite National Park and Mongol Ecology Center donated Lake Hovsgol National Park Entrance Sign, a Visitor Center sign, and 3 Road Signs. The signs were designed and fabricated at the Yosemite Sign Shop at the Yosemite National Park.
